Assignment 1 Contrasts in One Photograph

Produce Sixteen photographs, group them in 8 pairs marked with the contrasts the aim to demonstrate.Also produce one photograph that demonstrates CONTRASTS in one picture

Equipment:
Camera: Nikon D300s
Lens 18/135mm
Tripod

 Multiple Contrasts

Exp time = 6 Sec
F/Stop = F16
Focal length = 135mm
ISO = 320

For me this picture displays a whole host of contrasts  in one single shot

Still/Moving
Hard/Soft
Liquid/Solid
Large/Small

The shot was tripod mounted and  the camera set to manual I dialed in a shutter speed of 6 seconds for this shot and selected an aperture of F16 in order to get as much in focus as possible.

Assignment 1 Contrasts Pair 8

Produce Sixteen photographs, group them in 8 pairs marked with the contrasts the aim to demonstrate.Also produce one photograph that demonstrates CONTRASTS in one picture

Equipment:
Camera: Nikon D300s
Lens 18/135mm
Tripod

Pair 8 Rough/Smooth

Exp time = 1/640
F/Stop = F9
Focal length = 70mm
ISO = 400

Exp time = 20 Sec
F/Stop = F14
Focal length = 100mm
ISO = 320

Rough

My inspiration for this pairing was a visit to Naburn Lock in York, there was some fantastic old machinery with old iron chains on one side and on the other there was a spectacular cascade of water rushing down from the river Ouse.

With this image I tried to get in close to an old crane there were parts on the machinery  that were very rusty and rough and the other parts that had not been weathered so hard. I tried to pick an interesting feature on the crane while still trying to display the contrast of rough.

Smooth
For this image I returned back to Naburn Lock at Dusk in order to try and shoot the waterfall with a much longer shutter speed to get a completely different effect from what I had achieved earlier in the day. The shot was tripod mounted and  the camera set to manual I dialed in a shutter speed of 20 seconds for this shot and selected an aperture of F14 in order to get as much in focus as possible in the available light. The resulting effect gives a smoothing to the water that almost looks cloud like.

Assignment 1 Contrasts Pair 7

Produce Sixteen photographs, group them in 8 pairs marked with the contrasts the aim to demonstrate.Also produce one photograph that demonstrates CONTRASTS in one picture

Equipment:
Camera: Nikon D300s
Lens 18/135mm
Tripod

Pair 7 Still/Moving

Exp time = 1/125
F/Stop = F18
Focal length = 135mm
ISO = 400

Exp time = 1/13 Sec
F/Stop = F32
Focal length = 18mm
ISO = 200

Still

My inspiration for this pairing was a visit to Naburn Lock in York, there was some fantastic old machinery with old iron chains on one side and on the other there was a spectacular cascade of water rushing down from the river Ouse.

With this image I tried to get in close to one of the crank shafts that drive the mechanism which in turn open and shut the lock Gates. I tried to get a sense of motionless into the photograph while still trying to show its part of a piece of machinery.

Moving

This picture was taken also at Naburn lock. For this image the camera was mounted on a tripod with the smallest aperture I could set on the lens (f32), I focused a third into the picture in order to get everything into focus. The tripod was required for the slow shutter speed in order to get a steady shot. I wanted to still get the feeling of movement in the water without stopping it altogether.
