Exercise 6

Curves

Equipment:
Camera: Nikon D300s
Lens 18/135mm

Curves, like diagonals, have a sense of movement and direction, and in some ways can be considered a kind of diagonal line. Because the pull the eye, they are useful in planned composition. Curves have associations of smoothness, grace and elegance, and so add these feelings to an image. For this exercise look for and take four photographs using curves to emphasise movement and direction

Exercise 5

Diagonal Lines

Equipment:
Camera: Nikon D300s
Lens 18/135mm

Diagonal lines are rather easier to create in photographs, as they depend mainly on viewpoint. Whereas many scenes contain real horizontals and verticals - streets and buildings, for instance there are few real diagonals; staircases are one of only a few instances. The camera angle and perspective, however, make diagonals common in photographs. To add to your set of examples of horizontal and vertical lines, now take for photographs, which use diagonals strongly.

Exercise 4

Horizontal & Vertical Lines

Equipment:
Camera: Nikon D300s
Lens 18/135mm

Produce  four examples of vertical lines and four of horizontal lines. Avoid repeating the way in which a line appears. In each photograph, try to subordinate the content of the picture to the line.

Tripod

Subject: Conkers (Horse Chestnuts)

Set up a still life with a background that is unfussy, Control the composition by rearrangement, not by changing the framing with the camera.
Camera was mounted on a tripod, After experimenting with Flash I decided to use a longer exposure to correctly light the subject. The settings i used remained constant throughout the shoot to try and achieve the same level of lighting consistency all the way through
